Fincantieri’s VARD Wins Contract For Offshore Wind Support Vessels

VARD, a leading global ship design and shipbuilding company and a subsidiary of Fincantieri, has secured a substantial contract for the design and construction of five Walk-to-Work Service Operation Vessels (SOVs). The vessels will be built at VARD’s shipyard in Vung Tau, Vietnam, and are scheduled for delivery between the second half of 2027 and the first quarter of 2028.

The SOVs, based on VARD’s 332 design, are designed to provide efficient and safe support services for offshore wind farms. Each vessel will be approximately 88 meters long and 19.8 meters wide, equipped with a diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system, a stabilized gangway, and a 3D motion-compensated crane. The vessels will accommodate up to 190 people, offering comfortable living quarters and advanced working facilities.
