India DRDO’s Supersonic Missile-Assisted Release of Torpedo (SMART): The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully flight-tested a new missile system designed to revolutionize the Indian Navy’s anti-submarine warfare capabilities. The Supersonic Missile-Assisted Release of Torpedo (SMART) system was launched from a ground-based mobile launcher off the coast of Odisha on Wednesday (May 1, 2024).

This next-generation missile system, indigenously designed and developed by DRDO, carries a lightweight torpedo and utilizes a two-stage solid propulsion system to deliver it at extended ranges far exceeding conventional capabilities.

The successful test marks a significant milestone for the Indian Navy, as SMART is expected to significantly strengthen its defenses against underwater threats.
