Fincantieri-Hera Group partnership for sustainable shipbuilding: Monfalcone, Italy (July 19, 2024) – Shipbuilding giant Fincantieri and Italian environmental leader Hera Group have announced a partnership to tackle waste management and promote sustainability in Fincantieri’s shipyards across Italy. This collaboration will see the creation of a new joint venture company specifically designed to handle the nearly 100,000 tons of industrial waste produced annually by Fincantieri. The key objective? Reduce waste generation and maximize recovery through the principles of a circular economy.

The initiative kicks off at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Monfalcone, but plans are in place to expand to other Italian locations and potentially even international sites.

Here’s a closer look at what this partnership entails:

Circular Economy in Action: Minimizing waste generation is a top priority. Advanced recycling technologies will be employed to maximize recovery, while separate waste collection will ensure materials can be reused in production cycles. Additionally, logistics will be optimized to improve safety on construction sites.

ESG Goals in Focus: The partnership is designed to accelerate Fincantieri’s progress towards its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) objectives. This includes reducing waste, increasing recycling, conserving water, and cutting CO2 emissions.
