GRSE Bags MPV Contract from Germany’s Carsten Rehder: Kolkata/Hamburg, Germany – Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Ltd. has signed a contract with Carsten Rehder Schiffsmakler and Reederei GmbH & Co. KG, Germany, on March 24, 2025, for the construction and delivery of the 7th and 8th Multi-Purpose Vessels (MPV) of 7,500 DWT. The agreement, signed in Hamburg, Germany, represents a continuation of the “Option Agreement” between the two parties, bringing the total order to eight vessels with an approximate value of US $108 million.

The specifications of these vessels are substantial: each will measure 120 meters in length and 17 meters in width, with a maximum draft of 6.75 meters. Capable of carrying 7,500 metric tonnes of cargo, the 1 MPVs will feature a single cargo hold designed to accommodate bulk, general, and project cargoes. Container transport will be facilitated on the hatch covers. Notably, these vessels are specifically engineered to transport multiple large windmill blades, catering to the growing demand in the renewable energy sector.

The contract was formally signed by Cdr Prasenjit Roy (Rtd – Indian Navy), Deputy General Manager (Commercial Shipbuilding) of GRSE, and Thomas Rehder, Managing Director of Carsten Rehder, in the presence of Cmde PR Hari, IN (Retd), Chairman and Managing Director of GRSE, Jonas Meinhardt, Managing Director of Carsten Rehder, and other senior officials. This marks a significant milestone in the collaboration between the Indian and German companies.
