Dassault Aviation’s UCAV to complement 5th Gen Rafale Fighter Jets: Saint-Cloud, France – The French government has announced the development of an unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) that will complement the future Rafale F5 standard after 2030. The announcement was made by Sébastien Lecornu, French Minister of the Armed Forces and Veterans Affairs, at a ceremony marking the 60th anniversary of the French Strategic Air Forces (FAS).

The UCAV will be a stealth combat drone designed to operate collaboratively with the Rafale fighter jet manufactured by French aerospace company Dassault Aviation. It will incorporate advanced technologies such as stealth, autonomous control, internal payload capacity, and more. The UCAV will be highly versatile and capable of evolving to meet future threats.

The development of the UCAV builds upon the achievements of the nEUROn program, Europe’s first stealth UCAV demonstrator. Initiated in 2003, the nEUROn program brought together the aeronautics resources of six European countries, with project management by Dassault Aviation. The program successfully completed its maiden flight in December 2012 and has conducted over 170 test flights to date.

The combination of the Rafale F5 and the UCAV will ensure France‘s independence and capability superiority in the coming decades. Similar to the role played by the Mirage IV in its time, the UCAV will provide essential support to the Rafale F5, enhancing its operational capabilities and effectiveness.

The UCAV program is a significant step forward for France’s defense industry and demonstrates the country’s commitment to technological innovation and military modernization. The development of the UCAV will contribute to the French Air Force’s technological and operational superiority, solidifying France’s position as a leading aerospace power.
