BAE Systems bags $2.5 Bn Swedish-Denmark Order For CV90 Combat Vehicles

BAE Systems Wins Sweden-Denmark CV-90 Combat Vehicle Order: London, [December 6, 2024] – BAE Systems has secured a significant $2.5 billion contract with Denmark and Sweden for the delivery of new CV90 combat vehicles. This contract builds upon an initial agreement signed with Sweden in May 2024 and establishes a new three-party framework with Denmark’s Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (DALO) and Sweden’s Defense Materiel Administration (FMV).

Under the terms of the contract, Denmark will acquire 115 CV9035MkIIIC vehicles, while Sweden will procure 50. Additionally, both nations will procure further vehicles for Ukraine, funded by their respective governments.

Major General Peter Boysen, Chief of the Royal Danish Army, emphasized the importance of the CV90 to Denmark’s military capabilities, stating, “The infantry fighting vehicle is an essential component of the heavy brigade we are currently building. The 115 new vehicles will significantly enhance Denmark’s contribution to collective security and international operations.”

Tommy Gustafsson-Rask, managing director of BAE Systems Hägglunds, highlighted the advanced capabilities of the CV9035MkIIIC, stating, “These new CV9035MkIIICs will extend the capabilities of the armed forces of Sweden and Denmark. They will also provide their crews with improved situational awareness and increased mobility, protection, and lethality.”

The CV9035MkIIIC is based on the same standards as the latest Dutch CV90 mid-life upgrade program and is equipped with a new turret that offers enhanced design and functionality. The vehicle’s design benefits from years of combat experience and continuous improvements, drawing on insights from the CV90 User Club, which comprises 10 nations operating CV90 fleets. This commonality ensures interoperability between the different nations.

BAE Systems’ CV90 is a renowned infantry fighting vehicle with a proven track record in various combat scenarios, including Afghanistan and Ukraine. With over 1,900 vehicles ordered in 17 variants, the CV90 has established itself as a reliable and versatile platform for land forces worldwide.
