India-China border clash: In a major development, Indian Army and PLA soldiers once again clashed at the southern bank of Pangong Tso Lake on late Saturday night when Indian Army foiled the provocative movement by the Chinese PLA troops to change the status quo, Indian Army said in statement issued on Monday morning.
Indian Army said the movement by the Chinese PLA soldiers was in violation of the consensus reached at through diplomatic and military talks.
“On the Night of 29-30 August 2020, PLA troops violated the previous consensus arrived at during military and diplomatic engagements during the ongoing standoff in Eastern Ladakh and carried out provocative military movements to change the status quo,” Indian Army said.
Indian Army and Chinese PLA have sent heavy enforcements and are on a state of high alert over the last three months following a violent face-off between the two armies in June in which 20 Indian soldiers and an unconfirmed number of Chinese soldiers were killed.

Both the countries are engaged in intense discussion through diplomatic and military channels to diffuse the situation since then but the fresh border clashes between the two Asian giants have undermined the confidence building measures.

“Indian troops pre-empted this PLA activity on the Southern Bank of Pangong Tso Lake, undertook measures to strengthen our positions and thwart Chinese intentions to unilaterally change facts on ground,” Indian Army said.
Indian Army said it was committed to maintaining peace and tranquility through dialogue, but was also equally determined to protect its territorial integrity.

“A Brigade Commander level Flag Meeting is in progress at Chushul to resolve the issues,” Indian Army added.
