Defence News India: India’s ministry of defence Tuesday appointed VL Kantha Rao as the next Director General (Acquisition), in charge of all the crucial procurement decisions as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government seek to modernise India’s military to face the twin challenge of China and Pakistan.
Rao, an officer of India’s elite Indian Administrative Service (IAS), was working as an additional secretary in the Department of Defence Production in the ministry before his appointment as DG (Acquisition) by appointments committee of cabinet (ACC).

The all powerful appointments committee, which is headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, also promoted Sanjay Jaju, a joint secretary in the ministry as Additional Secretary, who will succeed Rao.
Both VL Kantha Rao, a Madhya Pradesh cadre IAS officer, and Sanjay Jaju, a Telangana cadre IAS officer, joined the service in 1992.
