EDA Selects Shiebel CAMCOPTER S-100 for Logistics Programme: Vienna, Austria – In a significant move towards advancing autonomous military capabilities, the European Defence Agency (EDA) has chosen the Schiebel CAMCOPTER S-100 unmanned air system for its pioneering cross-domain logistics programme. This selection, made under the auspices of the Hub for European Defence Innovation (HEDI), marks a key step in exploring the potential of unmanned systems in modern military operations.

The EDA’s “Autonomous Systems for Cross-Domain Logistics (Air and Land)” initiative, hosted by the Italian Army, aims to conduct extensive experimentation with both Unmanned Air Systems (UAS) and Unmanned Ground Systems (UGS). The programme will focus on fostering interoperability and demonstrating the practical application of these technologies in challenging scenarios.

A core component of the programme is the evaluation of heavy-lift Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL) UAS, specifically in the category capable of carrying payloads exceeding 50 kilograms. The Schiebel CAMCOPTER S-100 will play a crucial role in simulated missions, including last-mile resupply in hostile environments, scheduled for June and July 2025. These trials will also involve two smaller UAS and three UGS, creating a comprehensive assessment of integrated autonomous operations.

The increasing demand for interoperability in modern military operations, particularly across different domains and for logistical support, underscores the importance of this initiative. Autonomous systems are expected to significantly enhance efficiency and effectiveness in complex and challenging environments.

HEDI, the driving force behind this programme, seeks to expedite the integration of cutting-edge technologies into military applications. This is achieved through immersive operational and technical field testing conducted in a collaborative and agile environment. The programme aims to bridge the gap between technological innovation and practical military deployment.

The selection of the Schiebel CAMCOPTER S-100 for this programme is seen as a testament to its proven capabilities and maturity. The system’s track record and performance were key factors in its selection for this demanding initiative.

“This programme, a first of its kind for the EDA, builds upon other recent engagements within the European Union,” said Hans Georg Schiebel, Chairman of the Schiebel Group, highlighting the growing recognition of the CAMCOPTER S-100’s capabilities. “With its extensive experience and demonstrated performance, the S-100 is a natural fit for this programme, and we are eager to showcase its potential during the upcoming experimentation.”

The EDA‘s cross-domain logistics programme is expected to provide valuable insights into the future of autonomous military operations, paving the way for enhanced interoperability and logistical support in the European defence landscape. The collaborative effort between the EDA, the Italian Army, and Schiebel marks a significant step forward in the development and deployment of advanced unmanned systems.
