Hindustan Shipyard to use Kongsberg Maritme’s RAS Tech for Indian Navy’s Fleet Support Ships: New Delhi: Kongsberg Maritime, a global leader in maritime technology, has secured a significant contract with Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) to supply advanced replenishment-at-sea (RAS) equipment for the Indian Navy’s new fleet of five Fleet Support Ships (FSS). This strategic partnership will enhance the Indian Navy’s operational capabilities and logistical efficiency.
The Indian Navy’s FSS are designed to provide critical support to the fleet, including replenishment of fuel, ammunition, and provisions at sea. Kongsberg Maritime‘s electric RAS system will play a vital role in facilitating these operations, offering faster, safer, and more reliable supply transfers.
Lisa Edvardsen Haugan, President of Kongsberg Maritime, said: “Our RAS technology supports critical operations for many of the world’s navies, and through the development of our electric system, we offer mission-critical capability enhancing operational readiness, extending range and providing a sustainable and responsive solution for the Indian Navy.”

The advanced electric RAS system will improve operational efficiency and safety, especially during extended missions. It will enable the Indian Navy to maintain a sustained presence in the Indian Ocean region, ensuring the security of vital sea lanes.

Kongsberg Maritime’s RAS system will provide a comprehensive solution for the FSS, including electric winches, movable high points, masts, and ancillary equipment. The system will also incorporate an astern refueling system, enabling refuelling operations when abeam replenishment is not feasible.
By equipping the Indian Navy’s FSS with state-of-the-art RAS technology, Kongsberg Maritime is contributing to India’s maritime security and self-reliance. This partnership signifies a significant step forward in strengthening India’s naval capabilities and enhancing its strategic posture in the Indian Ocean region.
